Curriculum Revision #2
Unit 0: Introduction to Chemistry is fully revised. The following items have been added to the resource page.
Do Now and Exit Tickets: If you need quick lesson starters or formative assessments at the end of lessons, feel free to use these resources (or make a copy to modify them for yourself).
Main Idea Checkpoints: The structured “Main Idea Checkpoints” reinforce important chemistry and science-related vocabulary covered in the lesson. This section is then followed by targeted application questions. These are great resources to use at the end of a lesson when you want to collect more detailed formative assessment data on how individual students can transfer their knowledge to these new questions.
Teacher Google Slides: Each of the four lessons and synthesis lesson have dedicated slides to help foster conversation and application of information inside of the Student Notebook. Feel free to make a copy and make any edits as you see fit for your students and classroom needs.
Revised End-of-Unit Assessment: Slight language modifications to some of the quiz questions were made to be more aligned to the language of the NYSED Physical Science: Chemistry PLDs.
Student Notebook: A couple of minor errors were found when creating the answer key. Both the revised student notebook and suggested student answers have been uploaded.
Additional Optional Simulation: On the materials list, you will find all of the required hands-on materials and simulation links. A second simulation for Lesson 3 was included, which can be used as a quick whole-class or individual student activity. Quantitative data is shown on how the thickness of the aluminum foil affects cooking time for a baked potato, which can then be used for the prediction of thermal energy transfer question that ends the foil task for Lesson 3.
The remaining items for Unit 1 should be uploaded within the next 2-3 days. I hope you are enjoying your summer!
